About Joy Melody Lechner, MSOM, L.Ac.

Founder of Joy Wellness + Fertility

Heart-Centered, Integrative Care for Fertility, Cancer Recovery, and Women’s Health

Joy Melody Lechner is a nationally board-certified and Arizona-licensed acupuncturist and herbalist with over 12 years of clinical experience specializing in fertility, women’s health, and integrative cancer recovery. She is the founder of Joy Wellness + Fertility, a practice rooted in compassion, evidence-informed care, and the power of the mind-body connection.

Joy’s work is shaped by both her clinical expertise and her personal healing journey. Having experienced miscarriage, preeclampsia, and cancer herself, she brings a rare depth of empathy and insight to the women and families she supports. Her third pregnancy—at nearly 41—was her healthiest yet, free of complications, thanks to the same holistic methods she now shares with her clients: acupuncture, herbal medicine, nervous system regulation, targeted supplementation, movement, and emotional care. Even in her final trimester, she could be found hiking South Mountain behind her home—an embodiment of the vitality she helps others reclaim.

Education, Licensure & Clinical Background

Joy holds a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture (PIHMA) and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, earned in 2000. She is nationally board-certified by the NCCAOM(National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine), a distinction that signifies rigorous training and successful completion of comprehensive national board exams in acupuncture, herbal medicine, biomedicine, and foundational theory. This certification ensures that practitioners meet the highest standards of safety, competency, and professional ethics in the field of East Asian medicine. She is also licensed by the Arizona Acupuncture Board of Examiners.

During her four-year master’s program, Joy worked alongside a naturopathic physician specializing in fertility, gaining firsthand experience with Western herbal medicine and integrative fertility protocols. It was at this clinic in 2005 that she experienced an “aha” moment where she knew helping couples create life would now be her life path professionally. In 2008, she completed a focused internship combining Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with assisted reproductive technologies like IUI and IVF. Since then, Joy has collaborated with fertility clinics across Arizona, supporting women through all phases of the fertility journey—from natural conception to embryo transfer and beyond.

Cancer Recovery & Terrain-Based Care

Joy is a certified Cancer Advocate through the Metabolic Terrain Institute of Health and has completed a year-long mentorship with Dr. Nasha Winters, author of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer. Her advanced training in terrain-based oncology allows her to guide patients through cancer recovery using safe, personalized strategies that address inflammation, hormones, detoxification, gut health, emotional well-being, and more.

Her clinical style integrates the science of psychoneuroimmunology—the study of how thoughts, emotions, and the nervous system affect immune and hormonal health. Whether working with fertility, perimenopause, chronic illness, or cancer recovery, Joy brings a steady, empowering, and heart-centered presence to each session.

Community Involvement & Healing Beyond the Clinic

Joy is deeply involved in her community and passionate about making healing accessible. She volunteers with Brightly Living, a nonprofit supporting women with breast cancer and beyond. She provides auricular acupuncture at retreats and speaks on topics like emotional wellness, trauma recovery, and cancer care. Through a local grant, she also offers up to six free sessions to those in financial need.

She is available for wellness events and retreats, offering sound healing, auricular acupuncture, and educational talks on holistic healing and emotional resilience.

Joy also serves on the board of Unity Salsa, a nonprofit bringing music and dance to those in recovery or experiencing homelessness—combining her love of movement with her commitment to community healing.

A Life of Service & Joy

Joy grew up at Sunshine Acres Children’s Home, founded by her great-grandparents, and credits her family’s legacy of service for shaping her path in healthcare. Before opening her acupuncture practice, Joy was a professional violinist, performing in symphonies across Arizona and Oklahoma and running her own violin teaching studio for over a decade.

When she’s not in the clinic, you can find Joy spending time with her husband and 3 boys, hiking desert trails, flowing through yoga, salsa dancing, meditating in sound baths, or playing music with friends. A lifelong learner, she continues to explore ancient healing systems, modern science, and the ways they intersect to restore vitality and joy.

“Healing begins when we are seen, heard, and held with compassion.”

Joy is honored to walk beside you on your journey to health, balance, and new beginnings.
